"I would like to add my personal experience as a worker. I have attended the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Folk Magic Festival, and the 2nd Conjure Con. This is an exceptional group of presenters, Orion, Aunty Sindy, Susan, and Mamma Starr, each bringing their particular experience and practice of folk magic, conjure, and hoodoo, and what they do with that is extremely unique. They weave their personal, unique practices and experience with each others, to present an open-ended approach to the participants exposure to these crafts. They have a shared philosophy of keeping the cultures of these crafts alive, not in an orthodox way, but rather to enliven the American cultural richness found within conjure, spirit work, root doctoring, and all the many forms it is know as. They also draw out of the participant a confidence to grow your own relationship with these cultural practices through exploration of your personal ancestral work, relationships, and culture.

The Folk Magic Festival in New Orleans of 2013 was an incredible experience....Under the watchful eye and camera Shimmering Wolf, I had the best time ever. A series of 12 or more classes with presentations and workshops from Orion Foxwood, Auntie Sindy Todo, Susan Diamond from Serpent's Kiss Magick Shop & Botanica, Momma Starr Casas and last time, Bloody Mary Milan form Bloody Marys Tours....

The 2013 Folk Magic Festival, in New Orleans was a magickal time for me,(as it always is in New Orleans anyway), I saw so many great workshops with The Walls of Jericho by Momma Starr Casas ,being a strong one. A close second had to be the Shape-shifting class run by Susan Diamond, who had a gentle, yet solid way of leading the class out of our bodies and into a space where we were at one with, and discovering our Animal Familiars. Orion Foxwood (who indeed does make magic fun, as Christian Day stated) started the weekend off with a wonderful crossroads key making workshop, leading the entire room in a chant to Saint Peter, splitting the room in two, with both sections chanting separately and then in unison.

"I have to say that the Folk Magic Festival has enriched my life in so many ways that I'll never forget. God had graced me with the opportunity to meet in person Tante (Aunty) Sindi, Brother Orion, my soul brother Aubrey, Susan Diamond, and Wolfie. The whole festival is jam-packed with power and the Spirit of God expressed through different manifestations or as some say divine currents. I also met many other wonderful folks there too and I took home some powerful lessons that still influence me to this day. The Traditional Folk Magic Festival in New Orleans and Conjure Con are not about grand-standing Conjure Crossroads nor the self-aggrandizing that you find in online hoodoo. The focus of these events are about empowering folks to "do their work" as Brother Orion Foxwood puts it.

What Past Attendees Have Said

  • I attended the first 2 Folk Magic Festivals. It is hard to put into words the full experience. The topics have ranged from cleansings, how to work with Black Hawk, The Bible in Conjure, Prosperity work, Love and Romance, Doll making...I can go on and on. The workshops are a mix of lecture and hands on experiences. Each of them also vend their wares and are happy to find time to chat with you about what they make and do. No where will you have a better opportunity to learn from these real and caring conjurers face-to-face and heart-to-heart. What I like most is they provide a lovely mix of backgrounds and knowledge from different perspectives. imageOrianna
