The 2013 Folk Magic Festival, in New Orleans was a magickal time for me,(as it always is in New Orleans anyway), I saw so many great workshops with The Walls of Jericho by Momma Starr Casas ,being a strong one. A close second had to be the Shape-shifting class run by Susan Diamond, who had a gentle, yet solid way of leading the class out of our bodies and into a space where we were at one with, and discovering our Animal Familiars. Orion Foxwood (who indeed does make magic fun, as Christian Day stated) started the weekend off with a wonderful crossroads key making workshop, leading the entire room in a chant to Saint Peter, splitting the room in two, with both sections chanting separately and then in unison.
Sindy Todo did a wonderful class called "Finding Your Mother Mary" in which we sat and meditated on a theme, locating our own special Mother Mary, and bringing her into our life and presence, complete with shrouds, and deep meaning through visualization. Starr's reversal workshop was very intense. The class with Orion and Auntie Sindy Todo, dealing with passion and conjure was fun and interesting with lots of new ideas for getting things steamy with your mate. In closing, all teachers, who were so nice, had great and high quality merchandise for sale, and I even had to buy an extra suitcase of sturdier quality because I didn't want some items damaged in the ride home. From the oils of Serpent's Kiss Magick Shop & Botanica, to the amazing folk art crafts, which were workable conjure products, of both Sindy Todo and Starr Casas, there was almost not enough time to go through the merch area. I would like to make this a yearly event and have started planning for it now. I suggest this to those interested in learning more about all forms of magickal practice, especially Conjure based work. –F.D.
