"The Folk Magic Festival was a truly empowering experience. The event is held in the magical city of New Orleans, where Witchcraft, Voodoo, Hoodoo, Conjure and Native spirituality have converged for centuries into a powerful blend of unique regional magic. What touched me most personally was that it didn't matter who you worship or what your religion is. You will get something from this experience because magic is a thread that weaves through all faiths. Starr Casas and Susan Diamond's workshop, Clearing the Way, was steeped in Christian lore and theology but this did not make the process any less magical for this Witch. In fact, it was made all the more so by virtue of Starr's deep faith and connection to spirit and Susan, equally magical and coming from a more Pagan background, was able to blend her wisdom with Starr's in a way that brought us to a crossroads of spiritual power.
I was only able to attend three workshops due to time constraints but all three were fantastic. Orion Foxwood's workshop on Haunting Images was as fun and informative as all things Orion always are. Far too often, teachers of magic can be lifeless and liturgical but Orion gets that magic must also be fun! His workshop really deepened my understanding of how to make dolls, poppets, and statues come alive. He helped us to relate to the actual spirit presence within statues, seeing them more as symbols. I feel like everyone came away with a better sense of just how powerful these icons can be. The third workshop I took was Auntie Sindy Todo's class on prosperity power. This was very valuable because Sindy didn't just focus on the magic of prosperity but the practicality of it as well, and helped us to combine the mundane aspects of responsible money management with powerful manifestation to bring profits higher. As a businessperson, I appreciated Sindy's down-to-earth, real-world approach! Finally, the evening of Dining & Divining with the Spirits was intense, The divination was particularly helpful for me as there were answers I really needed to know about and I'd felt a little stuck on a particular issue. The energy in the room that night was truly pitched with power. Arnaud's is a great restaurant for this sort of work as it's one of New Orleans' haunted places and with all the sensitives in the room, the activity was strong. It was the perfect ending to a most magical weekend." Christian D.
